Honeydew in Boston

Everything we manage for a Boston building.

Compliance is how most clients meet us. Verification, supply where the market allows it, solar screening and bill auditing are why they stay.

No obligation. We will tell you if you do not need us.
What we run in Boston
Compliance Benchmarking and BERDO 20,000 sq ft or 15 units, filed with the City of Boston.
Deadline Extended to Aug 15 for 2026 One dataset, two shares: the city platform and the state programme.
Verification Required BERDO requires third-party verification of your reported data, and the verifier cannot be you.
Energy supply and procurement Deregulated Massachusetts has competitive supply on electricity and gas, and municipal aggregation changes the comparison.

Dates and thresholds change. We confirm the current requirement for your specific building before anyone acts on it.

How the pieces fit together in Boston.

A covered building in Boston is dealing with an annual filing, a set of local rules that change more often than anyone expects, and a capital plan that has to satisfy an owner or a board. Handled separately, those generate vendors who do not talk to each other.

We are the accountable partner across all of it. We are not engineers and we do not pretend to be. We make sense of the rules, verify the data, bring in the right specialists, and give the building a plan it can act on.

The practical benefit is that the data gets built once. The same verified floor area and clean utility record that drives your compliance position also drives a supply bid, an incentive application, or a solar screening.

Local detail that changes the answer
Two shares, one dataset
The city and the state both need the data, and completing one does not complete the other.
Parcels split unless you act
Multi-building parcels separate by default in Boston, which is the inverse of Cambridge. The configuration decision matters early.
The payment is per tonne
Emissions above the limit carry a published alternative compliance payment, which makes the do-nothing case a real number.
The services behind this page

How we start

Deadline work first. Everything else on your schedule.

1
Position review
Coverage, current data, floor area, and what is outstanding.
2
Close the compliance gap
Filings, verification where it applies, and any notice response.
3
Review energy supply and procurement
Rate class, contract end dates, and whether competitively bidding your energy supply makes sense this year.
4
Screen the opportunities
Incentives, solar, audits, and measures that also improve the compliance position.
5
Manage it forward
One point of contact, one set of numbers, and reminders that arrive before the deadline.
Why now

Emissions limits with a payment attached, and a filing status worth verifying.

Boston is one of the few jurisdictions where the cost of doing nothing is directly calculable, because the alternative compliance payment is published per tonne. That makes the board conversation clearer than in most places.

The deemed non-compliance trap is the local hazard. We verify status rather than assuming a submitted filing means a completed one.

Received a letter?

What a BERDO notice usually means.

Boston letters range from routine to expensive, and the heading tells you which.

Send us the letter
Reporting non-compliance
The city share or the state share is missing. Completing one does not complete the other, and buildings that believe they filed are frequently missing the second.
Emissions standard notice or payment
Your reported emissions exceed the limit and the alternative compliance payment is being calculated. This is where the configuration, hardship and data-quality questions have to be raised, quickly.

Send us the letter itself, not a summary. We read it for the six things that decide the response: who sent it, which building and identifier it names, what period it covers, what it says you failed to do, the cure date, and whether it is a first notice or an escalation. We never quote a running penalty total, and we cure first, then talk to the regulator.

Questions about each of these services

With whatever has a date on it. Usually that is the filing or the standard, and the supply and advisory work follows once the compliance position is clean. We would rather earn the second engagement than bundle it.

Yes, and we do it constantly. A clear thirty-minute presentation is often what unlocks a decision.

Not necessarily. Boston requires the same dataset to be shared with the state programme as well, and completing one share does not complete the other.

There are routes worth reviewing, and they are worth reviewing early rather than after a payment is calculated. We assess whether your building has a realistic case before you spend anything on it.

No. Reporting is part of it, but the substance is an emissions standard with declining limits and a payment for exceeding them.

No. It is one dataset but two separate shares, and neither one satisfies the other. Buildings routinely miss the second share.

Worth checking. Aggregation is frequently good value and when it is we say so. It is not automatically the best price for a large commercial load.
