Honeydew in Colorado

Everything we manage for a Colorado building.

Compliance is how most clients meet us. Verification, supply where the market allows it, solar screening and bill auditing are why they stay.

No obligation. We will tell you if you do not need us.
What we run in Colorado
Compliance Benchmarking and Building Performance Colorado 50,000 sq ft and up, filed with the Colorado Energy Office.
Deadline Reporting season, closing Nov 1 A season rather than a single date, with waivers due October 1 and extensions October 15.
Verification Required Colorado does not require verification every year. It requires it when you ask the state for a different target.
Energy supply Regulated market No retail choice here, so the savings work is efficiency, incentives and bill auditing.

Dates and thresholds change. We confirm the current requirement for your specific building before anyone acts on it.

How the pieces fit together in Colorado.

A covered building in Colorado is dealing with an annual filing, a set of local rules that change more often than anyone expects, and a capital plan that has to satisfy an owner or a board. Handled separately, those generate vendors who do not talk to each other.

We are the accountable partner across all of it. We are not engineers and we do not pretend to be. We make sense of the rules, verify the data, bring in the right specialists, and give the building a plan it can act on.

The practical benefit is that the data gets built once. The same verified floor area and clean utility record that drives your compliance position also drives a supply bid, an incentive application, or a solar screening.

Local detail that changes the answer
A season, not a deadline
Reporting runs July through November 1, and the waiver and extension dates come earlier than the filing itself. Missing those is how buildings lose options.
Condominiums screen on mechanicals
Shared centralised heating, cooling or hot water decides coverage. The covered list is not the test.
A fee every year
Five hundred dollars per covered building annually, whichever way the performance question goes.
The services behind this page

How we start

Deadline work first. Everything else on your schedule.

1
Position review
Coverage, current data, floor area, and what is outstanding.
2
Close the compliance gap
Filings, verification where it applies, and any notice response.
3
Review energy supply and procurement
No retail choice here, so we review rate class, tariff fit and billing errors instead.
4
Screen the opportunities
Incentives, solar, audits, and measures that also improve the compliance position.
5
Manage it forward
One point of contact, one set of numbers, and reminders that arrive before the deadline.
Why now

A per-building fee now, and a binding target in 2030.

Colorado charges an annual per-building fee and applies penalties at the building level, so the running cost of the programme is predictable and budgetable.

The 2026 conditional non-referral was a pause on referral rather than a repeal, and buildings that read it as a cancellation are the ones with no runway when 2030 arrives.

Received a letter?

What a Colorado Energy Office letter usually means.

Colorado letters are seasonal, and the dates inside them matter more than the letter itself.

Send us the letter
Reporting season notice
Reporting runs July through November 1, with waivers due October 1 and extensions October 15. Missing those earlier dates is how buildings lose options.
Fee or penalty notice
The five hundred dollar annual per-building fee, or a penalty for a missed season. Penalties currently run at published amounts of $577 and $2,300 rather than the older figures still quoted online.

Send us the letter itself, not a summary. We read it for the six things that decide the response: who sent it, which building and identifier it names, what period it covers, what it says you failed to do, the cure date, and whether it is a first notice or an escalation. We never quote a running penalty total, and we cure first, then talk to the regulator.

Questions about each of these services

With whatever has a date on it. Usually that is the filing or the standard, and the supply and advisory work follows once the compliance position is clean. We would rather earn the second engagement than bundle it.

Yes, and we do it constantly. A clear thirty-minute presentation is often what unlocks a decision.

Correct. Reporting is a season closing November 1, and the waiver and extension dates fall earlier. We calendar all three.

Public buildings are exempt from the fees, which is one of the few clean exemptions in the programme.

No. What happened was a conditional non-referral, which pauses enforcement referral. The obligation stands and 2030 remains binding.

Only if heating, cooling or hot water is shared and centralised. That is a question about your mechanical systems, and it is the first thing to establish rather than checking a list.
